Sydenham Railway Station Platform Alignment

Post by TerryM »

Can anyone help an ex resident confirm to himself he is not going senile.
I have just found this site and noticed the article about building a station over the tracks - which confused me slightly as I thought the platforms were either side of Sydenham Road, but low and behold after looking at the birds eye view on MSN Map the platforms are more or less opposite each other. When did the current set up come into being ? I am sure when I started working in London [late 60's], there was an entrance to the London platform on the opposite side of Sydenham Road.

There DID used to be an entrance on the other side of the road...i remember it from when i was small , i dont remember using it or when it stopped being in use so i dont know when it ceased to be operational?

I vaguely remembered reading about this earlier and dug out this thread:

Hope this helps.

Thanks for the links, good to know I am not going senile.
Found those great old pictures on the link. Brought back memories of travelling up to work in what seems another lifetime.
