Local eateries

Post by alywin »

On passing through Penge today, I noticed that:
- McDonalds are operating on a takeaway basis only;
- Friends of Flavours are operating a home delivery service, I think it was.

Please add other restaurants etc. here, and do consider patronising our local ones.

Trattoria Raffaele doing its part.

Supply chain obviously intact and the specials board looks superb.

Nearly all coffee shops are open still with some having put in place self-imposes restrictions (eg: SE20 cycles who have a small coffee shop inside have a locked door policy and you need to knock to come in essentially limiting numbers).
Some are also online eg: Cobbs Corner are on Ubereats

Bottle shops are all open to a degree so consider buying some for home instead of your usual pub round - bring your own bottle, bottlecave (who are now on Deliveroo), ignition, 161 (who are offering free delivery on their wine)

Lots of places are looking into delivery services or are extending to full menu available for pick-ups (eg: Trattoria Raffaele)

Kirkdale Books are welcoming orders by any means (phone, email, tweets) including knocking on the window (!) and will deliver by post (paid by customer) or if near enough will drop off for free (they have a few kind volunteers offering to do this so let them know if keen to help), however the physical shop is closed.

Lastly a couple of extra things - although things are becoming more scarce it is always worth considering going to non big name shops to not only support our independents but also pick up things possibly difficult to get elsewhere (eg: Billings for eggs, the health food shop for bread or pasta, fresh and fruity for certain fruit/veg). Understand that things simply won’t be as cheap as Lidl etc but if really need certain things may be worth considering.

The library is also open as far as I know and if you haven’t signed up you can do with an ID and not only pick up some books during these isolating times but also log online and gain access to a range of online books, comics and audiobooks for free!

Take care all X
