Perhaps we need a de-chavving centre for chav conversion and and chavtastic-aversion therapy?

I hate Subway.
Life's too short to 'hate' a sandwich shop - get a grip.

As for something being described as 'Chavvy', would you be referring to someone - you consider - has less money or 'taste' than yourselves?

You must be so sophisticated - does one dine on blinis with caviare and champagne? What what.

Terrible thing snobbery.

While I'd love to believe that Sydenham Road was destined to go the way of Columbia Road and become a haven of slightly mad, quirky little shops, given our suburban reality Subway is not a bad chain to see moving in. It's a step up from Wimpy, anyway.

Anything is a step up from Wimpy. Truly.

And, I declare, a decent and properly traditional pie and mash establishment would be a step up from both ...

Trawlerman, I saw this and thought of you:

There you go. The revival is starting, albeit probably in a more gentrified form than you'd hoped. Perhaps in around 5 years or so someone will get around to putting a branch on our high street.[/url]

Hope it is Dolphin friendly.

Seriously though I am surprised so many so exited over the arrival of a national chain of sandwich bars, but I am often surprised.

I'm amazed there are no KFC or Mac D's on the High Street Its one of the few towns I've ever been to without either one of them. Maybe the rents are too high, or the market isn't big enough.

I am a fan of Subway, but after having one in the USA you feel a bit short changed over here. But then they are just OTT over there !

Both Crystal Palace and Forest Hill had a McDonalds for as long as I can remember, and both have closed down in the past 2 years or so. Funnily enough the site of the old Forest Hill McD's has re-opened as a gym.
