New Park Keeper in Mayow Park

Post by mummycat »

It’s March and we have a new Friend of Mayow Park: our long-awaited Permanent Park Keeper!

Meet Gilles (pronounced like an English “Giles”), originally from Belgium, but has lived in England for over 15 years. He has worked for Glendale, Lewisham’s Park Contractors for over a year now, working with the team in Sydenham Wells Park, Telegraph Hill, Chinbrook Meadows, Blackheath and Brookmill Park. He will be working a 5 day week, during Park opening times and a collegue will be covering for the remaining 2 days a week. He will be based in the Pavilion.

Noticed over a Dozen people working by the (Post Box/BurghillRoad) entrance this week.

If it's the young men in green fleeces, they are working on the Envirowork project. They have been laying pathways around the proposed raised beds and creating "living benches" this week.

The pillar at that entrance has now been rebuilt, having previously been demolished to fit the Bowling Club portacabins through! I'm not going to comment on this forum, you'll have to see for yourself or read the blog!

Is 'ol Gilles a patch on the "daddy" of Parkies, Mummycat? If not, then poor show. Poor show indeed.
