Help Grow Mayow win some funding!

Post by Tim Lund »

Literally, it takes two clicks, first one here

If you don't know about Grow Mayow, well, you should - it's just behind the pavilion in Mayow Park, open Tuesday to Thursdays. Here's what it has on the page linked to:
Their story: Busy bee's in local community garden

Grow Mayow Community Garden is run by two volunteer garden coordinators and a volunteer team of growers. Their aim is to offer people access to a refreshing space for relaxation and leisure. They also promote healthy lifestyles by growing food, recycling waste art and using Permaculture principles. Many people within the community use the large garden and take part in growing, sowing or just enjoying the garden.

How they'd put the money to use: The group would use the funding so that they can develop their garden to also incorporate beehives. They run several kids clubs and would love to educate them about insects in the garden, bee pollination and the life of a bee and a honey bee. They believe it’s important to teach children about the food chain, and feel this is an educational yet fun way to help protect a key species.

Quote:

“Honey bees are in decline and without honey we face a food crisis. One third of the food we enjoy is the result of a Honey bee. They pollinate and without adequate pollination our food supply is in serious trouble. This is the reason that we want to start the project as well as educating the children in the area and creating a place for the local community to visit.”
